CHAPTER NINE
Rebecca
The days continued and soon we were set for landing, it was the same day when our conversation had turned from being slightly flirtatious and rather light-hearted to taking on a heavier topic of conversation. We were currently seated back in that room in front of the computer screen. I had already shown him every movie that I had wanted to show him and now we were currently reading through a history of his father, a history of who he was and all that led him to this path. I had to admit that after hearing about his life I began to understand him a bit more and was able to respect him, he had become a friend and due to those passionate nights that we shared I wondered if we could be even more.
It was strange though, there were no outward signs of affection when we were like this. No holding hands, no kissing, no hugging, just simple banter. All of our physical contact was saved for when we were together in our quarters, besides that there was nothing that we would do together in that sense.
"So you said that he never did love you right? I'm sorry to hear that, really I am." I admitted while staring at the screen, his father apparently owned hundreds of planets but would only grant his youngest a single one, it sounded spoiled to complain about such a thing but considering his brothers were spoiled even more due to their age and origins then he had quite a bit of reason to buy into structure and fate having a large part in what a person deserves or doesn't deserve.
"They don't know what love is and I don't either. I have no time for such a foolish emotion." he began, before that stoic facial expression of his softened. "Sometimes I do wonder what that feeling entails however. I never did get the chance to personally experience it. No my qualm is with how father conducted himself, I learnt a valuable lesson that day, that nothing matters more than your birth. Your path in life is supposedly your very birthright and well...I was a fool to think otherwise when I was younger." he admits.
I bite my lip and looked over at him while ruminating my next sentence, "So what do you do about it?"
"The only thing that I can do." he replied, "There's nothing that I can do except for bettering myself to the point where I wield similar power to him. Once I have that then I can impose my own will, after all it is fate that I would be the youngest prince, nothing was said about my potential power, only about the number of properties that I would have. To claim the birthright I seek I would fight as hard as I can, I would fight tooth and nail...and I would claim what was mine from the very beginning." he finished darkly while I read the lines of text in front of me.
